Far from it. I'm probably an NC44 or an NC44.4 but definitely NOT an NC45 and I am tired of MAC Artists matching me to this color 'just because'. I am of mixed race (east indian, african and irish) and my undertones (to me at least) are a bit weird. I have olive (ish) undertones with the inner part of my face being more red and the outer part being more yellow. I realized recently that my NC45 foundation are way too dark/orange giving me that different color face body look. I decided to do some experimenting with foundations and these are the colours I've found that match me really well.
Iman Second to None Stick Foundation in Clay 1: By far the most perfect match ever. Iman's website compares their NC45 to a Clay 3 which is very RED. The Clay 1 is definitely a good match for NC44s.
Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation compact in 5.5 Warm Honey: Great match as well but needs to be buffed in and bronzed up for it to look natural

Bobbi Brown Oil Free Cream Foundation 6 Golden: A bit 'orange' but blends in well. Does not oxidize so I can see me using this when I get a bit tanned in the summer. This would be perfect for true NC45s though.
I must say that I'm loving Iman's products and placed an order for her cream to powder compact, luxery liquid foundation in Clay 1 and her blot powder in Medium Deep. I also ordered her cover cream (concealer) in Sand medium to use ah an under-eye highlight so pictures and swatches will follow along with reviews on all her products! I can tell you now that I have lots of good things to say :)
