Dear Abby: How Do We Tell Them?

By Albert Wagner @albertwagner4

DEAR ABBY,
I write blog posts about the Meaning Of Life and people just don't seem to be getting the message.

Life does have meaning, but if you only look at your daily tasks to do you likely will miss it.  Maybe you can help the readers.

People constantly say things like,
  • "The meaning of life is just to be happy."
  • "The meaning of life is what you make it to be."
  • "There is no meaning in life."

As a blogger and a spiritual aficionado I would like to clear up a few minor details.  These ways of thinking seem to leave out some of the larger picture, as they are only focused on the self.

Here are some of these flaws in thinking (and my opinions in short responses):

1.  thinking happiness is the same as meaning
   * if life were always filled with happiness it would lack meaning

2.  thinking there is one simple answer to the meaning of life
   * the meaning of life is _________ involves more than one word to answer

3.  thinking only you give it meaning
   * how you fit in the bigger picture with other people brings meaning

4.  not including a higher power in the equation
   * how a higher power works through your life helps bring meaning

This thinking has misled some people.

Abby, how can this be explained to people to enrich their daily lives?

These questions are likely on their minds and if someone would guide them they would undoubtedly appreciate it.

There is MORE to your life than what you experience around you!
