DCC–Vacation Crafts–Watercolor on the Go

It’s the first Monday of the month again!  That means it’s time for the Designer Crafts Connection hop.  Glad you’ve stopped by to join us at today.  The Designer Crafts Connection is a group of professional designers and crafters from all sections of the industry who have joined together to support one another and share inspiration.  This month we are sharing projects to inspire you about Vacation Crafts!

Many of us find ourselves on-the-go over the summer and some of us are lucky enough to being traveling on a vacation somewhere; even if it is a staycation close to home.  I found these watercolor pads that I love because they are sealed around the edges so that I don’t always ‘bleed’ through to the next page.  Sometimes that, in itself, makes another great art pieces, but sometimes I don’t want my colors to bleed through the edges.  I have a few of these, but this is a great portable size.  I can throw this in a tote with some pencils and travel watercolors and I’m ready to go.  However, it’s not very pretty like this, huh?  Here is how to cover your own.

1.  Chose your own pretty papers, ribbons, flowers, etc.  You can even chose something theme related to your vacation; ie Disney, cruise, beach, mountains, etc.

2.  Measure your journal or paper block.  This one is a 6×6 block.  I measured the depth as well; yours will vary.  Measure the depth so that you can score and wrap the cover similar to the original layout.  Cut front papers to your block measurements. Cut paper for back at 6×6.

3.  Score at depth marks.  Mine scored at 6 and 6 3/8.

4.  Glue cut and scored paper to cover the front, wrapping around top.  Glue 6×6 back.  I used Helmar Acid Free Glue.  I love this adhesive for covering books and using papers because it doesn’t warp my papers or my substrate.

5.  After gluing base papers, ink around any edges and embellish as desired.  I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere all my embellishments.  Helmar 450 guarantees me that my embellishments and twine won’t fall off going in and out of my tote. I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to pop up the butterflies!  Not a super complicated project, but one that I hope inspires you to create something today.
