Somehow making phrases like “only a fool could love me” seem inviting by surrounding them in layers of sunny sonics, he compresses driving bass, engraining guitar and sparkling synth into a summery mix of pop accented by the echoes of his breathy falsetto. Phillips makes his music accessible by polishing the production to a crisp and clean perfection in the style of Carousel while maintaining the sincerity and whirling melodies of bedroom pop.
