Dave McLean, member of London based neo-psychedelic band The Chemistry Set, has covered Faintly Blowing the title track from Kaleidoscope's second album. He stayed close to the original, but also added extra mustard by extending the track and choice effects. A quite frankly, he is actually a better singer.

Dave McLean: Faintly Blowing

What makes these release special is that he offers the song in both basic stereo and glorious mono, the latter using phasing to create an echo that is sometimes mistaken as a tape malfunction by the unitiated. It is hard to make a song sound like it was recorded in 1969 without having a Tardis stashed somewhere, but McLean has pulled if off.

Faintly Blowing is released as a 8" lathe-cut single (only 100 copies) via Friends of the Fish, an imprint of Fruits de Mer Records.

Send an email to [email protected] before March 25 with 'FAINTLY' as the subject heading to make a chance to actually buy one - the label owner will pick the winners at random. Release date: April 1st.
