The Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Dr Pang Yiu-Kai has announced that Dane Cheng will assume position as the Executive Director of the Board from the 1st of November, 2019.
The announcement was made on the 30th of October, 2019 and with this the board has welcomed its new executive director. Speaking of the appointment, Dr Pang stated that Mr Dane Cheng has considerable amount of experience in the area of management and marketing in the tourism industry, which makes him an ideal candidate for the position. He reinstated, “I am confident that Mr Cheng’s profound knowledge of the Hong Kong, Mainland and international markets combined with his excellent management skills will help the HKTB continue to promote Hong Kong worldwide with effective marketing strategy.”
Dr Pang further added that he was very happy to have Dane Cheng on board at a time when the entire tourism industry is witnessing huge challenges. He noted, “I am certain that Mr Cheng will lead the team to overcome the current difficulties. Later, when the time is right, he will join forces with the travel trade and other sectors to launch a far-reaching global promotion, attracting visitors from every continent back to Hong Kong and rebuilding Hong Kong’s reputation as one of the world’s leading travel destinations.”
It must be noted that as a veteran in the tourism & travel industry, Dane Cheng has made signification contribution towards the growth of the sector in Hong Kong and Mainland China. After his graduation from the Chinese University in Hong Kong in 1986, Cheng joined the Cathay Pacific Airways and also held several senior positions in marketing, general management, communications as well as international affairs across different regions.
With more than 30 years of extensive experience in the Hong Kong travel & tourism industry, he is capable of guiding and advising the board in the right direction. Cheng also held the position of the Executive Director of Hang Lung Properties Limited from 2017 to 2019.
Cheng’s appointment was initiated by the HKTB and was made according to the Section 8(3) of the Hong Kong Tourism Board Ordinance, while being approved by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government.
