Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk

A pair of P-40’s taxi in after their flight performance at the Wings Over Wine Country airshow. The P-40 achieved immortality as the aircraft of the American Volunteer Group, the Flying Tigers, defending China from Japan during the early years of WWII.   This Kittyhawk (the English name) was purchased by the Royal Canadian Air Force who  operated it until 1946.   This beautiful example spent five years flying in Duxford beofre making its way back to the States in 1989.  This aircraft was used in the filming of the movie Pearl Harbor. Over 13,700 P-40s had been built by the time production ended in December 1944.  Nikon D300 w/ 80-200mm.
