Reading...The Island Of Sea Women: A NovelI've been a fan of author Lisa See ever since I read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and I have read many of her books. Her books which often take place in historical settings are well researched and her writing style has a way of transporting the reader into those worlds. Set on the island of Jeju, South Korea, the story centers on the friendship between two women from different backgrounds who work in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective known as haenyeo. Set over a span of 80 years starting with the period of Japanese colonialism during the 1930s and 1940s, the story of a country’s history is also told through the lives of these two women. This book is both heart wrenching and enthralling and I have a hard time putting it down every time I pick it up.CONTINUE READING ≫
