Cultural Baggage Or Strong Parenting?

A few days back during my weekly grocery trip, I was at the yogurt section patiently waiting for an elderly lady to get done. After a few seconds I realized she will probably take a while so I politely asked her to excuse me so that I could reach and pick the 'greek yogurt' and be on my way. She replied, "Sure. I can't find what I am looking for." I smiled, got my yogurt and got out of her way.

Usually I am extra careful with elderly people. I have had a few interactions with grumpy ones so I am little vary. But call it cultural baggage or some strong parenting that I can never be rude or disregard them completely. Even if they - ask me rude questions try to convert me to another religion, or  publicly ask me awkward procreation questions But I digress .... So ... I was about to go on but something told me to wait a few seconds as that lady really looked lost. After I saw her struggling for over a minute, I took my chances and asked her, "Can I help you find what you are looking for?" The reason I didn't immediately offer help was also to do with the fact that I do not ever want older citizens to feel that they are not capable of doing things just because they are older. I want to be helpful, but also be respectful and not come across as 'know-it-all' just because I am younger in age.  Thankfully, I did not offend her and she replied, "Yes, please. My daughter wants me to put on some weight so she has asked me to get flavored yogurt which is not light or fat-free". She was having a hard time finding a regular fruit flavored yogurt in the brand her daughter had suggested. And rightfully so. It was not until that afternoon that I realized 9 out of 10 fruit yogurts are either 'light' or fat-free. Apparently, brands have forgotten about people who might not be on a diet or rather looking for fat in their yogurts. Anyways, after a few minutes of looking high and low, we were able to find ONE brand which had what the lady was looking for. I asked her, if needed help with anything else. She said, "No! Thank you." and I left her to do remaining of her groceries. Since, I don't live with my parents, who are not that old yet, but you know ... one day they will be that old too ... so whenever I have such interactions I can't help but wonder and hope that someone would help them too ... when they might get stuck in everyday life.
Moving on to the outfit ... this is EXACTLY the same outfit as I wore here ... I simply just switched up the accessories and voila! Also, I am stil in love with Kimonos. You can get 20% off at my favorite brand Elizabeth Gillet with code: LOVEYOURSTYLE
