Crown Lands Acoustic Wayward Flyers Volume 1 + 5 Quick Questions

By Phjoshua @thereviewsarein

Crown Lands are back with new music. Acoustic Wayward Flyers Vol. 1 came out today.

It's an acoustic EP but don't worry, it still rocks, all the while, touching your heart softly. The acoustic version of Howlin' Back surprised me. It's so different from the original version, and so amazing, and, the bar was set very high. Roving On delivering hints of Rush, Led Zeppelin and Genesis, bringing us the best in acoustic progressive rock. Odyssey is the word that comes to mind when listening to the next song, Witching Hour. It takes us on a journey. Next, how about the cover you didn't know you needed. Birds, originally released in 1970 by Neil Young, feels like a it was written for Cody's voice. It gives me goosebumps on the final note. In the last position is No Sympathy. It almost brings me to tears every time I listen. There's a building tension pushing us to the end.

"Wayward Flyers is an arrangement of acoustic aural vistas that meander from our usual high-octane rock display and into the forest. Within this body of work, we've taken some interesting decisions to explore parts of our own musicality that we haven't yet fed under the umbrella of Crown Lands. It's something that is woven with love, laughs, and playful exploration with our musical brother, Justin Meli. I even got the chance to apply some concepts of West African percussion I learned in University in this one which was really fun! It's all about getting to the root of our instruments in making a concise distillation of vulnerability in music form." - Cody Bowles

"This EP is another side of Crown Lands. A side we haven't shown before! We wanted to get in touch with the core of our song writing through this record.

Tom Petty once said that 'most any good song, you can sit down and deliver it with a piano or a guitar.' We set out to prove that and as a result we pushed ourselves in a softer, more intimate direction." - Kevin Comeau

Crown Lands - The Witching Hours at Chalet Studios

Wayward Flyers shows us a side of Crown Lands that we've never seen before. The EP makes me long for the forest, the lake, the open fields, the mountains, and the ocean. I want more.

Although we've been covering this band since it's early days, we've never done a 5 Quick Questions segment with them. Thanks to Cody and Kevin for this fun 5QQ.
