The Great Windmill (Byasa dasarada) is a swallowtail butterfly with white spots and red submarginal crescents, found in Northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and south-eastern China.

With a wingspan of 4″ to 5½”, this is a woodland butterfly and can often be spotted slowly and gracefully flying across clearings. It flies between 4,000 to 9,000 feet in the spring and summer.

The Great Windmill’s pupa or chrysalis is yellow-green in color with blue bands. It has an orange protuberance on its back. It is attached to its support by a black body and anal pad. The pupa emits a squeak when touched!
