Since there are genetic samples from strangers in MP Amarakeerthi Athukorale’s murder, the Attanagalla Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne yesterday ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to obtain the genetic samples of all the suspects including the suspects who are in remand custody.
The former Polonnaruwa District parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer, Police sergeant Jayantha Gunawardena were killed in Nittambuwa town on May 9 last year following the incident that took place at Galle Face on May 9.
The Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department conducted investigations and arrested forty suspects.
One of the suspects who fell sick died in the prison. Six suspects have been released on bail while 30 suspects are in remand over the murder.
