After the lovely weather the last few days it was almost a surprise to wake up to some drizzle today. Almost but not quite as the weather forecast had predicted it. We had arranged to meet up with plant friends Chad and John at Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens in St Austell. This is a garden we have visited before but not for a few years, and since our last visit the garden has new owners who have been renovating an restoring the gardens. This has involved the removal of a number of mature trees and shrubs to open up the garden and provide more light to the ground.
The changes are impressive with the garden and plants really benefiting from the additional light levels.
Unfortunately the rain started to get a little heavier so we opted to head into the café and have lunch. Hoping the rain would stop whilst we ate, we all tucked in. However with the rain easing but not stopping cake and hot chocolate was needed and it did the trick, by the time we had finished the rather delicious cake the rain had stopped, (lets face it cake and hot chocolate always tastes good when its raining!)
After we headed along the road to Tregrehan, a garden we know well having stayed in one of the cottages in the grounds a few years ago. See here for a blog from a previous visit.
Libocedrus plumosa
Senecio aschen-bomianus
Exbucklandia populnea
Schefflera farinosa
Tom Hudson has created a fabulous garden at Tregrehan, building on the old established garden at the estate adding a number of unusual and rare plants from around the world. As with other gardens on our trip we will feature both of these in more detail in due course.
