Los Angeles based artist Lynn Aldrich transforms everyday objects into pieces of art. She uses sponges, scurbbers, scouring pads, mop heads and brushes to create coral reef sculptures inspired by the qualities of light and color in nature. Aldrich draws on her hometown of Los Angeles for the issues she references in her artwork, such as pollution, deforestation, and coral reef degradation. She says, “I make correlations and contrasts to my experience of living in a city like Los Angeles — in a culture that is fragmented, vernacular, and oriented toward artificiality and consumerism.”
