Cooking Up Gourmet Meals with Home Chef

By Jeska @WandererJeska

home chefEven though I work part time out of the home and blog the other half at home, getting everything done in one day can be a lot. Cooking is something that we go in spurts on being great at. We go from cooking every night at home for weeks to getting lazy and eating out for weeks. I’ve seen various commercials for home cooking subscription boxes and wondered if they were really worth it.

An opportunity came along to try out Home Chef so I knew I had to give it a try and see what the fuss was about. Home Chef delivers fresh ingredients to create your very own gourmet meals at home. Though the meals looked amazing on their site, I wasn’t sure how they would turn out at home.

I received my package of meals in a cooled box and couldn’t wait to look inside. When I opened it up I found fresh food that was perfectly packaged for two. Each meal was in its only little bag and came with picture recipes cards. This seriously made it a breeze to follow.

Let me tell you, I was blown away with how good the food turned out. Every single meal was amazing and looked almost exactly like the photos. I was so shocked at how easy it was for me to make restaurant level dishes at home.

Breakfast: Diner-Style Sausage and Hash Browns

So this recipe didn’t go quite as planned but it still turned out delicious. I only have a very fine grater so grating the potato for hash browns didn’t work. Instead I opted to dice my potatoes and they tasted just perfect. The egg mixture that came for the omelets did not come out evenly but more like a glob of goo. I tried to make the best of it but instead made scrambled cheese eggs out of it.

Lunch: Chicken Adobo Tacos

Though this was a lunch meal, it was hands down my favorite out of them all. The seasoning for the chicken was amazing! Also, I’ve made mexican corn before but I’ve never tried it the way this recipe called for. Well let me tell you, I’ve made corn this way about 20 times since doing it this way. It was so damn good!

Dinner: Seared Flat Iron Steak with Garlic-Chive Butter

This meal was incredibly simple to make. All it took was a little searing and veggie baking and you were good to go. The veggies were fresh and a great side for this dish. As for the biscuits, well they were up there with Red Lobster’s Cheddar biscuits. They were delicious and made with sheep cheese!
