Control Of Global Warming Is Failing - Time's Running Out
Posted on the 09 October 2018 by JobsangerThe Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has issued a new report. The IPCC says we have only about 10 years (maybe less) to make the changes needed to keep global warming down to no more than 1.5 degrees C (2.7 degrees F). But the changes agreed to in the Paris Accords will not meet that goal. In fact, if that is all that is done, we are probably looking at global warming of 2 degrees C (3.6 degrees F) or more.
That extra .5 degree C change may not sound like much, but as the charts above (from Axios.com) show, the change is actually catastrophic.
This is not good news for the future. While more must be done than is currently planned, the United States is going backwards (by eliminating current standards and encouraging an increase in the use of coal). And with the U.S. being the second largest contributor of greenhouse gases, it would be very hard for the rest of the world to accomplish what is needed. (China is the largest contributor, but they are now actively trying to reduce their contribution).
The U.S. is endangering the entire world, and the culprits are Donald Trump and his climate denying Republican cohorts in Congress. It is imperative that they be voted out of power in 2018 and 2020.
