Not much is known about COMPNY, Brighton’s newest musical outfit, except that they know how to write an enchanting pop track. The anonymous ploy works for them much like the way it works for fellow U.K. group, Jungle: really well. The inconspicuous nature of their identity allows listeners to dive more deeply into their finely crafted pop, whose complexities shimmer through the facade of a simple summer jam. Listening closely, you can hear the quiet echos of the many layers of tinkering synths and percussion that make way for smooth guitar lines. The chorus bursts through with vocals at the forefront backed by blasts of synth. It’s an unassuming number that gradually ingrains 80s pop vibes into your musical memory. Though its lyrics speak of the longing to return to lost feelings of love, it could just as appropriately describe the music. It’s an anthem for melancholy wrapped in sweet reverberations of synth and soaring vocals that literally beg you to come back for more. I can’t wait until they return with a new track to see where they go from this impressive start.
