We have had a number of very public “comings out” as Michael Sam and Ellen Page have recently revealed that they are gay. I have no problem with this. It must be very hard to pretend to be straight when the truth is different. I am sure that it is very freeing for them to be honest.
My point is not to criticize them but to challenge Christians. I would like to see more people come out of the closet as Christian. It is very easy to go to work or go to school and never reveal our faith. I am not suggesting that we shove religion down people’s throats. I mean just be honest about who we are. It is okay to go to church. It is okay to read the Bible. People are less embarrassed to say they read Fifty Shades of Grey than to admit they read the Bible. If people can be proud to be gay, why can’t we be proud to be Christian?
