Coming Clean on Tomb Raider Exclusivity Was a Joint Square and MS Decision
Posted on the 06 August 2015 by Sameo452005 @iSamKuliiThe decision to announce PC and PS4 release dates for Rise of the Tomb Raider was a joint one made by both Square Enix and Microsoft, Square Enix America and Europe president and CEO Phil Rogers has told Game Informer.
Ever since the sequel was announced an air of confusion surrounded its "holiday 2015 exclusive" tag which Microsoft continually referred to. This all changed last month when Square Enix confirmed a spring 2016 release for the game on PC and a holiday 2016 launch on PS4.
It turns out, Microsoft was involved in making the call to talk about other platforms.
"For us it was about making sure there was no confusion," Rogers explained. "The message today is to listen, and where we have questions do our best to answer them.
"We felt at some stage, with Microsoft hand-in-hand, that we'd be best off now that this is the date we're aiming for with PC and we have a 12-month exclusive on console. We just thought that was in everyone's best interest, for gamers to understand that."
Rise of the Tomb Raider launches on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on November 10.
