Maa Chandraghanta is the third form of Maa Durga who is known for establishing justice. Goddess Chandraghanta derived her name from the word Chandra or ‘Moon’ as she wears a half Chandra on her forehead. It is believed that Maa Chandraghanta fulfils all the wishes of her followers and provides relief from worldly pains. Many people are of the view that those who worship the goddess are bestowed with peace, prosperity, fame and blissful martial relations.
On the third day of Chaitra Navratri, which is dedicated to the goddess, I have prepared sama rice (barnyard millet) kheer, but with a twist i.e. by adding some coffee. Check out the full recipe below:
Ingredients:-
- 1/3 cups sama rice
- 3 cup full fat milk or 750 ml full fat milk
- 5 tbs sugar
- 1 tsp instant coffee powder
- Dry fruits for garnishing
Method:-
- In a thick bottomed saucepan heat milk and bring to a gentle boil on a low to medium flame. Then add the sama rice. Stir very well.
- Cover the pan with its lid and on a low flame simmer the kheer mixture till the rice gets cooked.
- These tiny grains take about 18 to 20 minutes to cook on a low flame.
- Add 5 tbsp sugar. You can add more sugar if required. Stir very well till the sugar dissolves.
- Now add coffee powder
- Mix it well
- Cook it for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame.
- Garnish with dry fruits,
- Kheer is ready for bhog.
