Every month I recap client purchases so you can check out some of these stand out pieces for yourself. During the month of June so many excellent buys were made that I decided to break this update down into two posts so I can cover it all. Today I will be recapping dresses, pants and tops and tomorrow you can check out client purchases of skirts, shorts and shoes. Just wait until you see all the shoes in tomorrow's post! Dying!!
Client Purchases From June
The theme of client purchases for June was definitely more casual. Many of my clients were already on their second or third appointments for the season with me and we had already tackled their work wardrobes. Plus, with summer here, most clients were looking for what to wear for downtime plans.
Okay, let's get started!
Dresses
The only dress that a client bought that would be considered strictly for work was the first dress above by BOSS Hugo Boss. This client and I had already covered her work wardrobe needs but stumbled on this dress and had to add it. It's a summery work style that can easily be topped with a cropped cardigan in either ivory or navy. My client styles it simply with navy pumps. I'll show you those in tomorrow's post.
the next dress, the maxi, comes from T.Tahari. What I love about it is the shape. It's not tent-like despite its relaxed silhouette. It comes in a drapy, easy-care packable fabric that travels well and it can be dressed up and down. Have a tickets out to an event in the summer? This would be perfect with a pair of gold sandals and some jewelry. It can also work well with a pair of wedges.
Next, this chambray dress from MICHAEL Michael Kors. I had been looking for a chambray dress for some time. So many were way too short for the tastes of my clients, but this one is definitely a bit longer while still being youthful. It will transition well into fall with tights and boots. My client and I chatted about burgundy tights with cognac boots. Love!
The next dress is a printed jersey knit style, almost like a t-shirt fabric, from Nic + Zoe that is easy to wear and great for dressier summer plans. I don't necessarily recommend it for work because it is a bit clingier, but for summer fun it is perfect.
The next navy printed dress is from T. Tahari and I tried it on one client and it failed miserably. On another client it was perfect. It's another perfect summer dress, like the Nic + Zoe, but this one can also go to the office with a white blazer or cardigan.
Lastly, this bold printed fit and flare dress from Ellen Tracy, an absolute favorite of one of my clients that she knew she had to own the second she put it on. It's more of a work dress, as it is lined and a bit more structured than the rest, but could also be perfect for a daytime wedding or similar type of event.
Pants
Pants remained popular for summer regardless of the heat. First, these white jeans from Eileen Fisher. Eileen Fisher isn't always a go-to brand for me and my clients, but these particular jeans fit one of my clients really well.
Next, these Vince crop pants. Super cute and casual and can easily be dressed up and down.
A jumpsuit is next. This is the second jumpsuit purchased by one of my clients this season. It took a while for clients to warm up to them, but when the style is right it can really work. Take the Theory jumpsuit. It's a bit tricky to get into because of the wrap top. However, in terms of ease of doing things, like going to the bathroom, it's not that bad. This, and the fact that the jumpsuit looked super stylish once it was on, was a huge selling point.
The next casual olive pants are from Lord & Taylor's private label line. I actually own the same pair in orange and I LOVE them. I have been totally impressed by Lord & Taylor's line for casual in both summer and fall. The prices are great, the quality is fantastic and the looks are updated without looking too trendy or unwearable. These casual pants are my favorite for ultra relaxed days. They're so comfortable.
The ivory wide leg pants from Lafayette 148 one of my clients bought for work. While it's uncommon for my clients to choose wide leg pants, this pair is super elegant and looked fantastic on my client for work.
Last, these red Vince Camuto pants. I don't think this is the first time I have featured these pants. They are very popular with many of my clients. However, interestingly, I tried them and they looked God-awful and on another client they also weren't flattering. So it's really 50/50 if they will work for you, well more like 70/30. But the price is great and if they do fit you they look amazing. One tip: if the pockets splay open when you wear the pants, get the pocket bags removed and the pockets sewn shut.
Work Tops
I have a bit of a philosophy on shopping for work clothes. I would rather a client spend more money on tailored pieces than layering ones, like tops. The way I see it, tops tend to be trendier and more fleeting, plus they are also worn closer to the skin which means they will likely wear out faster. Tops can also be a fantastic way to update classic pieces so you might want to trade them out more often. That said, many of my clients stocked up on tops at lower price points this month.
As you probably noticed, there is a theme to the tops that they bought. It's a common shape, for sure. I think its popularity is due strongly to how perfect they work under jackets and cardigans, how they can be tucked in and worn out, how they can be worn in more corporate environments as well as business causal ones, not to mention even on the weekends too.
The first top on the left in aqua is by T.Tahari, as is the pink printed, the black and the bottom pink cowl style on the bottom left. The bottom middle green and bottom right in gorgeous purple are a little pricier and both from Elie Tahari.
Casual Tops
In addition to work tops, my clients also purchased some casual tops for weekends. The first two tops are from Lucky Brand which is, hands down, my personal favorite casual summer top line. What I like about Lucky Brand tops is that they don't need a lot of accessorizing to look finished, which can be particularly helpful on hot summer days. The striped top is a fun play on all the stripes you are seeing in the stores and the second Lucky Brand top with the American Flag is a style that I pulled for one specific client whose family is heavily involved in politics. It seemed fitting,
The blue sleeveless top is from Karen Kane. I like Karen Kane's line. It often reminds me a bit of Eileen Fisher but much less expensive. Sometimes her clothes can be a bit too relaxed and overly done, but quite often I find some styles that look modern and not too fussy. This top was one of them and I love the back detail.
The last two tops are from Nic + Zoe and are, again, tops that don't need a lot of accessorizing to look finished. The elephant top can look chic with khakis and can even be styled with colorful bottoms, like red and navy. The navy printed top looks great with white bottoms, tan, khaki and denim. Of course, they can be accessorized too, but don't need to be if it's just too hot and sweaty out.
