Making sure your makeup brushes are properly cleansed is such an important part of any beauty regime. Not only does it ensure that your makeup brushes keep their quality bristles for longer and allow for better makeup application, but regular deep cleaning of your brushes also ensures they stay bacteria and germ free which also reduces the chance of breaking out due to dirty brushes!
In terms of the cleansers/soaps I use to clean my brushes, I have a few top choices. For brushes that I use with a liquid/cream product that can tend to ‘set’ on the brush bristles, I use the Daiso Detergent for Puff & Sponge as it works really effectively in picking up and washing away makeup that has set on the brush hairs. This product does have a bit of a scent (nothing too intrusive) but I do make sure I rinse the cleanser out well and at such an affordable price, it’s a staple.
A new product in my brush cleaning regime is the beautyblender blendercleanser solid (available from Sephora and online retailers) which is an amazing cleanser as it takes very little effort and product for makeup brushes and makeup sponges to be deeply cleaned. The soap lathers up really nicely and has a lovely soft scent. I have to say that this is the best cleaner I’ve found to clean makeup sponges so although it is a bit pricier than others, if you’re an avid beautyblender/makeup sponge user, then I’d definitely recommend looking into this product.
Another affordable pick and one that is widely available is Johnson’s Baby Top to Toe Wash or Baby Shampoo. Both are very gentle on the brush hairs and are effective in washing away all makeup residue. I opt to use this cleanser on brushes which I use with powder products as these brushes are usually less dense and need a gentler touch.
Friday night makeup brush washing! I'll be using my new Beauty Blender Solid blendercleanser (available from @sephoraaus) for the first time today and hopefully its just as effective as using a liquid cleanser (I usually use the Daiso Cleanser or Baby Shampoo)! A tool that has done wonders in allowing a really effective cleanse is the Brush Egg which I purchased on eBay for just a dollar or two. It features two distinct sections, one with small bumps which works very well for smaller sized brushes and a section featuring strips which works best for larger brushes. It makes cleaning brushes so quick and easy.
For beauty tools such as tweezers or eyelash curlers, I use an alcohol wipe to clean them.
For a quick spot clean of brushes during the week (or when needed), I either use a few drops of micellar water on a cotton pad or a makeup remover wipe and gently swirl my brush on it.
