KUOW 94.9FM reports, May 26, 2015, that according to a new survey from the Pew Research Center, 10% of Seattle residents call themselves atheists – the highest rate among the largest metro areas in the U.S.

Other findings:

  • 52% of Seattle residents still identify as Christian: 23% are evangelical Christians, and 10% are mainline Protestants.
  • Among non-Christian faiths, Jews make up 1% of the city’s population, and Muslims less than 1%.
  • 22% identified as “nothing in particular” — which means, when added to the 10% who explicitly identify themselves as atheists, as many as 32% or 1 out of every 3 Seattle residents do not believe in God.

Pew also found that the number of atheists is increasing across the U.S., and that fewer adults identify as traditional Christian.
