The Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates for the following position:

Firefighter – 2 Full-time Immediate Openings & Establishing 2 year Eligibility List.

DESCRIPTION: City of Beloit fire fighters respond to fire alarms, medical emergency and other calls to protect life and property; additionally participate in fire prevention, training and station and equipment maintenance activities. We are progressive department that provides a myriad of services that allows for a candidate to cross train and excel in fields of interest in the fire and rescue service. Successful candidates will be required to serve eight years as a paramedic and must not smoke tobacco for the entirety of their career as a condition of employment.

Requirements for Application – A firefighter applicant shall have completed 15 credits in Fire Science and be currently enrolled in a Fire Science Program; or possess 20 fully accredited college level credits. Candidates that possess a valid National Registry or Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic license are exempt from the college credit requirement. Possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of applicant’s residence upon which the applicant can operate a motor vehicle in the State of Wisconsin. Have attained a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of application. Be of good moral character. Be free from any physical condition, (including substance abuse) emotional condition, or mental condition, which may adversely affect performance of duties.

Requirements for Hire – A firefighter applicant shall have completed 35 credits in Fire Science and be currently enrolled in a Fire Science Program; or possess 40 fully accredited college level credits. An applicant must also possess a valid National Registry or Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician license and be Certified Firefighter 1 in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard for Fire fighter Professional Qualifications 1001. Candidates that possess a valid National Registry or Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic license are exempt from the college credit requirement. Additionally, have no previous rejection by the Commission’s Medical Examiner for an uncorrected cause. Possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of applicant’s residence upon which the applicant can operate a motor vehicle in the State of Wisconsin. Have attained a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of application. Be of good moral character. Be free from any physical condition, (including substance abuse) emotional condition, or mental condition, which may adversely affect performance of duties. Prefer candidates that have a valid IAFC/IAFF Candidate Physical Ability Test Certificate within the 12 months prior to offer of employment.

STARTING SALARY: $1,691.64 bi-weekly + excellent benefit package

CANDIDATE PHYSICAL ABILTIY TEST NOTIFICATION:
The City of Beloit utilizes the International Association of Firefighters/International Association of Fire Chiefs Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). The candidate will be responsible for
providing a CPAT certificate that is valid within the 12 months prior to offer for hire.
