Chocolate Modak Recipe for Toddlers and Kids

It is Ganesh festival time.

Being a Keralite by birth and raised in Mumbai, the festival and the things related to it is play an important role in my life. Modaks, lightings and decorations, colorful idols, visiting different mandals are my favorite memories since childhood. I miss all those different types of sweets for ganesh chaturthi prepared by my maharashtrian neighbor taayais and vahinis.

Chocolate is a heavenly food, we all love it; especially kids. Often we see parents get things done from kids, chocolate is the way to do it. Chocolate pudding, chocolate candy, chocolate cake, chocolate milk there are never ending recipes associated with chocolates.

So in today's post, I bring you the most yummy modaks which I am sure kids will love Chocolate Modak.

One of my favorite among modaks and kids delight for their exotic love for chocolate. This will be a surprise to your kids as well, a yummy dessert which requires no cooking. The best thing about this modak recipe is you need not wait for any specific occasion to make these them.

Chocolate modak is not just a tasty prasad offered, they will be nutritious if prepared in a healthy way. These are high in calories, very simple and easy to make at home. Such modaks are prepared in different style using paneer, mava etc.

When modak meets chocolate it tastes finger licking good, with a smooth texture outside, a burst of flavors when you take a first bite.

Chocolate modaks can be served to toddlers and kids as an occasional treat. And why not chocolate modaks as a speciality for Ganpati festival?

Step by step Chocolate modak recipe:

Preparation time: 15 to 20 minutes, Yields: 10 modaks

Ingredients:
Chocolate Modak Recipe for Toddlers and Kids
  • Milk - 1/2 cup ( I used low fat milk)
  • Condensed milk - 1/2 cup
  • Chocolate bar - 3/4 cup (as per the sweetness)
  • Biscuit crumbs - 1 ½ cup
  • Crushed pista - a few
  • Oil/ghee - as needed
Preparation method:

In a grinder add in biscuits and grind to a smooth powder and keep aside. In a pan: take milk, add in condensed milk, chocolate bar (I grated the chocolate bar) and mix well.

Chocolate bar will start to melt. Keep stirring till it becomes smooth and shiny.

Add in biscuit crumbs. Start mixing add in chopped pistas.

Mix well till it becomes sticky dough. Keep it aside and allow it to cool.

Grease your finger with oil or ghee start shaping the modaks.

I didn't have a modak mould, so I shaped it with fingers itself. Do it with rest of the modaks.

Chocolate modaks are ready.

Note:
  • You can use chocolate chips for the modaks.
  • Digestive biscuits too can be used (I used glucose biscuits).
  • Stir continuously after you add the chocolate or else the chocolate may burn.
  • Adjust the sweetness as per the requirement.
  • Refrigerate the modak in air tight container, it stays good up to 1 week.
