Red Peony: TCM sees acnes as a sign of improper blood circulation and excessive internal dampness. Roots of red peony contain a certain compound known as paeoniflorin which helps in regulating proper blood flow and decreasing internal dampness. Red peony root may be consumed in dosages of 1 to 3 grams thrice per day.

Phellodendron: Phellodendron (huang bai) is generally used to eliminate internal dampness and body heat. If dried bark of this herb is taken in quantities of 3 to 12 grams every day, it can effectively curb down the root causes of acne problem.
