Chickpeas are the best source of protein, vitamins, minerals and fiber. The combo of rice and chickpeas makes it more nutritious and energy rich. Rice helps in maintaining a healthy weight and it’s also rich in carbs and other nutrients which are necessary for growth and development. It also helps to prevent constipation. As rice has very low sodium, cholesterol and fat, it helps to prevent obesity as well. This recipe is versatile, you can also add veggies if required. Ingredients:

  • Chickpea – 2 Tbsp
  • Rice – 2 Tbsp
  • Garlic chopped -1 clove
  • Jeera powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch
  • Ghee – 2 tsp

Method:

1. Wash rinse and soak chickpea for 2 to 3 hours.

2. Wash rinse and soak rice for 15 minutes.

3. Heat ghee in a cooker.

4. Add garlic and saute.

5. Add jeera powder, pepper powder and turmeric powder.

6. Saute.

7. Add rice, chickpea and mix well.

8. Add water.

9. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.

10. Mash and serve warm.

In this recipe, we have added the basic spices which can aid digestion and help in improving immunity. Spices can be gradually introduced to babies after 6 months of age. Any type of rice can be used as per your preference. If making for babies above 1 year, salt can be added.
