Yummy starter for Friday...Chicken Wonton!!

Tried my hand at this for first time and turned out super quick,delicious starter for any occasion.
The stuffing can vary based on individuals choice...you can go for any vegetarian option of your choice and even meat!
These would be best party starters..as very yummy and easy to make. I used the deep fried version but if anyone wants to try out baked version they can go for that as well.
I wanted to completely satisfy my taste buds with some hot and crunchy, deep fried stuff so I went for deep fried option :)

Chicken Wonton


Ingredients:

  • 10 Pastry Sheets
  • 1/4 Cup Shredded Chicken
  • 1/4 Cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Cabbage,shredded
  • 1/4 Cup Carrot,shredded
  • 2 Spring Onions, chopped
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 Tbsp White Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Oil (for stuffing)
  • 1 Tsp Red Chili Sauce
  • 1 Tsp Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp Maida
  • 1 Tbsp Water
  • Oil for frying

Method:

  • Thaw pastry sheets 10 mins before making wontons.
  • In a pan, add oil, when hot add all vegetables and chicken and fry for a while.
  • Add salt and sauces mentioned.
  • Cook till chicken is done 80%. This wont take much time, may be 7-8 mins as chicken is shredded.
  • Now make a paste with maida and water in a bowl and keep aside.
  • On a dry surface, arrange the pastry sheets. If in spite of thawing them pastry sheets are hard enough, then apply little water to your hands and slightly do a touch up for the pastry sheets . This should be done such that pastry sheets are soft enough to be rolled.
  • Cut each pastry sheet into 2. Place a tbsp of stuffing on the pastry sheet. Apply maida paste to all sides of the pastry sheet and close.
  • For a better understanding, I am sharing a video to learn how to fold wontons.
  • In a deep frying pan add oil, when the oil is hot drop in 3-4 wontons at a time and fry till crunchy.
  • Drain them on absorbent paper.
  • Serve hot with sauce of your choice!!

Tips:

  • Use sauces as per your choice to increase the spiciness of stuffing.
  • You can bake the wontons if you do not prefer deep fired version.
  • For vegetarians try corn-spinach,mushroom-cabbage,peas-cauliflower versions.
