Grace Joyner of Charleston indie label Hearts and Plugs (Brave Baby, Elim Bolt) is releasing her debut EP, Young Fools, tomorrow, but we’ve got an exclusive preview track to give you a heads up on the project. A former backup singer for various Charleston bands, Joyner took some time last year to work on something of her own making. She explains, “Young Fools serves to reflect on a difficult, yet incredibly important time in my life. I think there is something valuable in admitting your mistakes, as well as recognizing the power within you to leave them behind. Somewhere in the middle of learning that getting hurt does not make you weak, I started the healing process – I started writing music.” Mirroring the lonely nature of the lyrics, “Young Thing” is a moody, compelling pop song centered around sparse electronics and Joyner’s earnest vocals.
