There’s something to be said about hibernating in a Norwegian cabin to record an album. One of the things I’d like to say is: Can I join you next time? Simen Mitlid recorded this pretty track, “Vacation”, at his home cabin in Norway, as well as in Oslo and Vancouver. This single follows his first EP and precedes his first full length album, due out sometime this Spring. Austin Basham makes a banjo appearance on this track, which makes sense as both are produced by Tyler Johnson.
This single is attractive, catchy and sonically well-done. The insistent tempo in the background induces a mesmerizing, foot tapping state. When Simen adds in his soothing vocals to the verses, though, the focus shifts right to him. With higher-pitched ‘la-la-la-la’ background vocals and horns from members of Norway’s Benedikt & Friends, the track feels as exciting as it does calming. We’re definitely looking forward to the full-length album, as well as an invite to the next cabin recording session.
