Apparently Facebook thinks I'm spamming because I've been posting about a local charity event (called Abbey's Wheel Deal) happening this Summer in Sacramento, California on July 23, at The California State Fair.
Local. Charity. (For sick kids, no less!) Event.
How else am I supposed to get the word out? :P
Then again, that's exactly what our challenge is all about this quarter in my Content Media Production class. Our quest is exactly that -- how to get the word out about this event.
My classmates were all broken down into 3 major groups and each group has to come up with their own social media marketing package to present to the owner of the charity event, Christina, as well as the leaders of The California State Fair, and a huge-deal local advertising agency called RS&E (Runyon Saltzman & Einhorn, Inc.)
The charity is called Abbey's Wheel Deal. The charity creator, Christina, named it in honor of her best friend's daughter, Abbey, who was born with a congenital heart defect (there's more of Abbey's story at abbeyhelpsbrokenhearts.com.)

For the charity event, Abbey's Wheel Deal, Christina will attempt to ride the Ferris Wheel at the California State Fair for 26 hours straight. Yes. 26 hours straight! Wow. That's insane, right?! But very awesome! :) And all of the proceeds generated will be going to The Children's Miracle Network to help other kids just like Abbey.
And so, to raise awareness for this obviously awesome charity, our 3 groups will be competing to deliver the best pitch with the best ideas and the best advertising strategies, and whichever group has the best package will get to oversee their ideas to fruition!
Not only is it a great way for us students to learn, but it's free advertising for Abbey's Wheel Deal (AND the fair), and a GREAT way to get people involved in helping children, who are already the most weakest and defenseless members of our society -- the only help children have are the older people around them! Imagine that fact, and then put a sickness/heart defect on top of that. :(
This charity REALLY needs a lot of help, support, and Facebook "likes"... so, if you guys live in California and are going to make it to the California State Fair this year, don't forget to check out the Ferris Wheel on July 23. And, if you aren't able to be there physically, check out the Facebook page for Abbey's Wheel Deal, and "like" and share it with your friends. Also, if you are able to sponsor and/or donate, please do!
Thanks a lot! :)
My team's slogan? "Break a record; Mend a heart"
~*~
And THIS is the support me and one of my team members got from some local people around Downtown and Old Sacramento earlier today. We wanted to show that, as a community, we could mend a broken heart together. The right side (and some other places around) of the heart is filled up with signatures, showing people's support! :)
