As a heavily bullied student in high school, Ashleigh Rolle was determined to not allow these troubles to bring her down. Instead, she used these struggles to build from, and to become the best person she could be. In fact, by building from these negative experiences, Ashleigh has been able to touch the lives of many young people through organizations like One Young World, Junior Achievement, and Global Dignity.
As a part of the One Young World organization, Ashleigh has built a strong platform based on leadership. However, she does hope to use every OYW experience to strengthen her platform and open up a wide variety of networks. Through the OYW organization Ashleigh hopes to implement a plan to teach individuals how to read. She feels it is highly important for everyone to not only know how to read but to be able to comprehend as well.
In addition to helping individuals learn how to read and comprehend, Ashleigh has joined an international program called Junior Achievement, that teaches young people how to be their own boss. In other words, Ashleigh is apart of an organization that provides young teens with the tools and encouragement they need to become successful entrepreneurs.
Moreover, Ashleigh has also touched many individuals’ lives as a National Correspondent to the Global Dignity campaign. Again, as a heavily bullied student in high school, Ashleigh understands the importance of being able to live a dignified life. Therefore, through this Global Dignity campaign Ashleigh has been able to teach individuals how to live a dignified life by living her life as an example. She hopes to show these young people that you don’t have to be high and powerful to live a dignified life, because anyone and everyone is worthy of self-respect.
It is through these works and organizations that Ashleigh hopes to prove to the world that it does not matter who you are, or where you are from; anyone can have a positive impact on the world if he or she works hard enough. She says it is important to work with what you have, and use any and every available resource to your advantage. She also says it is extremely important to trust your heart. In other words, “don’t hesitate to do what you feel is right in your heart” just because you feel like it is too big of a task to accomplish. It is important to have faith and confidence in yourself, and to know that you can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough.
In conclusion, Ashleigh will take part in the 3rd annual OYW Summit in Pittsburgh, from October 18th through the 22nd. There she will hear from many inspiring speakers, and will participate in events that will have a lasting and positive impact on the world. She is also looking forward to representing her country, (the Bahamas), as a flag bearer in the Flag-laying Ceremony. She says the honor and pride she has in her country and in being the flag bearer for her country is inexplicable.
