Window Pane Chalkboard

I’ve mentioned a few times that I have a boyfriend (Chris is his name) and if you follow me on Instagram (hannahyoungandcrafty) then you’ve seen him in a few pictures. Little did I know when I started dating him just how crafty he was. I wish I could take credit for this project but I only helped a little. You know, by providing my expertise

What you will need:

Chalkboard spray paint

Window pane

Sand paper

Paint (if you are repainting)

Painters tape

We went antiquing and found this window pane for $10. If you’ve been antiquing lately then you know that this is a super steal! Some window panes are $50+!!

Originally, we were going to give it a fresh coat of white and then rough it up. But why mess with something that is already white and chippy? The plan was to turn the entire window into a chalkboard.

Chris used my hand sander and really roughed up the edges. I love how chippy and worn down it turned out.

Along the way, Chris had the bright idea to leave a “border” around the chalkboard. So we taped off around the edges. I say we here because I did help tape!

Since we used chalkboard spray paint, we cut up some old Trader Joes bags to cover the frame.

Spray several coats of the chalkboard spray paint. We pulled the paper and tape off while it was still a little wet.

Let it dry for several days.

Next, take some chalk and turn it sideways to “cure” it.

Then you can write away!

Chris attached D ring hooks to each side for hanging.

And I think it turned out pretty fabulous. It’s the perfect addition to this one weird wall he has in his kitchen.

Have you worked with chalkboard spray paint before?
