Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser Review| Best face wash for for sensitive skin

Today I will be reviewing the Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, which is made for all skin types and has a mild non-irritating formula, which softens as it cleans. I was thankfully introduced to this product by my dermatologist. I had a mild fungal infection on my cheeks and hence some ointments and a mild gentle cleanser from Cetaphil was prescribed by my dermat to be used religiously for the next few weeks. My skin specialist severely advised me to stay away from harsh and powerful face washes, hence I had Cetaphil to my rescue. I have used other skin ointments/ medicines by Galderma, the manufacturer of cetaphil. It’s a highly reputed brand and is very trustworthy for major skin issues.

Apply Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser to the skin and massage gently.

With water: rinse and pat dry with a soft towel

Without water: Wipe off the remaining Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser with a soft tissue or cotton wool.

My experience with Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser:

This is such a miraculous product and a boon for people with sensitive skin or dry skin. The formula is absolutely thick like a lotion and white in colour. Smells medicinal, not too pleasing for my olfactory senses. The packaging itself says its fragrance-free.

I have used this cleanser in two ways.

If you are wondering how to use cetaphil gentle skin cleanser without water then this is how I used

I took a generous quantity of it in my hand and applied it immediately to my skin, massaging gently, to the extent that it starts looking like a face cream and wiped it off with either a moist washcloth or a soft facial tissue, mainly viscose blend. You can also use facial wipes like kara facial wipes or Himalaya facial wipes or any which you prefer.

With water:

I also used this in the morning immediately after I woke up, took a generous quantity, massaged it evenly on my face, kept massaging for a few minutes and then washed off with water.

As per the claims by Cetaphil this makes the skin free from dirt, dust, grime, excess oil, makeup and other impurities. Well my skin wasn’t looking oily after I had washed my face with this cleanser, it did remove impurities, excess oil and impurities from the face. My face felt soft, clean and didn’t feel stripped. There wasn’t any tight or stretchy feeling too. It worked as a cleanser and moisturizer both for me. Because I didn’t find the need to moisturize, just spritz some facial mist or toner on your face followed by sunscreen and you are ready to go. I was also using this as apart of my cleansing-toning-moisturizing routine religiously. I preferred using this at my nighttime skincare routine as well.

The disappointing part about this is that it doesn’t cut through your heavy makeup, it can remove soft makeup like a bb cream or compact powder from the face. However if you are wearing a high coverage foundation layered with concealer, primer and a translucent/loose powder, then you have to use makeup remover and then grab cetaphil cleanser later.

People who have super oily skin might want to opt for a much heavy duty foaming gel face wash, because this Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser might not be able to remove heavy oil from a persons face.

Is Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser good for acne?

My skin type is basically medium oily and prone to breakouts, I use this twice to thrice a week. This Cetaphil gentle cleanser did not help in preventing the acne. Sometimes a cleansing milk followed by Cetaphil cleanser really works for me. Makes skin more supple, soft and fresh. The skin isn’t stripped of its natural oil, and sometimes using this twice a day also hasn’t caused any issues on my face.

Pros of Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser:

  • Makes skin soft, supple, hydrated and doesn’t strips the natural oils of the face
  • Can be used twice a day
  • You can use this cleanser with water or just wipe it off with a washcloth or facial tissue
  • Easy to carry around, comes in two sizes 125ml and 250 ml
  • Has a pump dispenser to supply ample product each time you pump it, no issues of product wastage
  • It’s a boon for people with dry and sensitive skin, or people having skin diseases like eczema etc.
  • Packaging is minimalistic, looks neat and the label has all necessary details printed properly
  • Award-winning formula since ages, dermatologist recommended
  • Non-comedogenic, pH balanced and fragrance-free

Cons of Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser:

  • Has parabens mentioned in its ingredients
  • Smells medicinal, has no fragrance, might be a turn off for some people
  • Priced a bit high if compared to other cleansers available in the market.
  • People with extremely oily skin might not find relief with this cleanser
  • Doesn’t do much to prevent acne
