Before we wave our flags in the sunshine and head down to sandy shores, ride our bicycles along lighthouses, drying off from the salty sea, here’s a little inspiration for celebrating our Nation’s 237th Birthday!Screen shot 2013-06-30 at 4.22.04 PM

The humid summer days of the east coast require my unruly curls to be put up into this side braided bun. My patriotic outfit needs to be comfortable, which means my go-to white shorts, played up with a flag scarf, star spangled flats, and starry bracelet.

Show your support while celebrating our country’s birthday by using eco-friendly products like FEED’s flatware and throw pillows. I think decor should be simple for the 4th of July, with the focus mainly on food and garden greenery, but I fell in love with the old-time feel of these lovely stitched chair backs and yarn wrapped jars with sturdy greens that can withstand the summer heat. I love strung lights, they set the best mood for any outdoor occasion.

Aren’t these straws fun? Perfect for sipping some refreshing lemonade.  Food wise, I’d say 4th of July is one of my favorites because I’m able to use some of my favorite ingredients from the season, like blackberries for these fruit cones and cheese appetizers. I’ve used these sweet and tart berries in my firework pie, all-american berry sundae, and pie pops and they make for great  sweet treats at any barbecue. {Stay posted on ideas for a healthy salad with oats and even a grilled one. Yes, that’s right. Who said you can’t grill your greens?}

If I was home a little longer I would have made these homemade s’mores to roast up as we watch the New York City fireworks!
