Head on down to the Texas A&M Educational & Cultural Arts Center, formerly known as the Museo Alameda, located in the historic Market Square in Downtown San Antonio. The Comptemporary Latino Art exhibit is extended until September 26th and it's free. It is the inaugural exhibit for the center and shares the talented San Antonio Latino and Latina arts community.
We visited after school one day right before the original closing date and spent a good hour looking at the art, recording videos in the interactive exhibit and writing notes to stick on to the walls of the place that we live and the people who are dearest to our hearts.
Of course they had to get as close to the giant paleta as they could.
The museum gives you little red heart stickers so you could place a heart sticker next to your favorite.
Someone sure does love their fideo.The exhibit focuses on people, places and things dearest to your heart and invites you to share yours.
This guy is writing USA on a sticky note, to place on the wall of 'the place he calls home'. He also wrote Mexico on another sticky. He gets it. He's celebrating his heritage, appreciating the Latino art around him, knows where his roots come from, and loves the country where he was born. All the while he is wearing a Belgium soccer jersey. This boy gets it.
The exhibit is open from 10-5, Wed-Sun, but stays open until 9pm on Tuesdays and is closed on Mondays.I love that this exhibit allows our children see that their every day images are beautiful and worthy of being celebrated in art museums.
