MY THOUGHTS: One of the most prominent characteristics of Cloud Catcher is the smooth, velvety mouthfeel, which they accomplished by adding lactose during the brewing process. I’ve always been a fan of lactose in beer for this very reason, and Odell really hit the mark with this one—that’s for sure. Most of my experience with beers containing lactose have been stouts, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. Another distinct difference of Cloud Catcher is that, unlike most Milkshake IPAs, this beer does not contain any additives (such as fruit) but instead simply dialed in on the combination of four varieties of double dry-hops (Galaxy, Cashmere, Azzaca, and Citra) to achieve the juiciness that is evident in every sip of this resinous, smooth IPA.
