Can An Air Purifier Make Your Skin Healthier?

By Jayshreebhagat

Using an air purifier in your home will clean your air and make it a healthier environment for you, which is great for allergies and your respiratory health, but did you know that using an air purifier is also great for your skin? It’s true.

It makes sense when you think about it since our skin is the largest organ in our body. This means that it absorbs all of the bad things that are in our space. So if you have clean air in your home, you are going to have healthier skin. It will look and feel better. Even the beauty industry is recognizing that air pollutants can cause serious damage to your skin.

There have even been some recent studies that link air pollution exposure to skin damage, like pigment spots, wrinkles, and other serious skin conditions. It can even cause eczema, psoriasis, acne, and in some severe cases, skin cancer.  You might be surprised to learn that some estimates from the EPA suggest that the air inside of your home may be as much as five times more polluted than the air outside. That isn’t a pleasant thought.

These pollutants are found in even higher numbers in homes that are in the city or near heavy traffic, but even those in the suburbs or the country have pollutants in their home. No one is exempt from bad air. Even if you have your windows open, your air may not be circulating well due to poor ventilation.

These days even many dermatologists and other skin specialists are recognizing that using an air purifier can help reduce the number of pollutants in your home dramatically. But how? How do air purifiers work?

It’s pretty simple really. They remove contaminants from your room by running the air through a filter. Some even have sensors that can capture extra allergens, bacteria, pollens, and molds. Then it blows the cleaned air back into the room. These machines will help you with your sinus troubles, allergies, and much more. The fact that they help your skin is a nice added bonus that we can all enjoy.

When it comes to acne, think about it this way. Your mother probably told you when you were younger that touching your face would lead to acne. Airborne bacteria works in pretty much the same way. Except instead of getting on your face from you touching it, they just land on your face. Before you know it, you have a breakout. By removing this bacteria from your environment, you won’t get acne as easily.

What about those free-flowing radicals from dust and pollution? You know, that stuff that causes the effects of aging because they irritate your skin and cause damage? An air purifier cleans up the air and removes many of these, which helps to keep us looking young.

So aside from all of the other health benefits, it turns out that your skin will benefit from an air purifier as well. Just make sure that you get one with a High Efficient Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. A HEPA air purifier is designed to remove over 99% of particles larger than 0.3 microns. These machines trap more than those without a HEPA filter.
