As the cold season approaches I always start feeling a sudden urge to knit something. Why not knit some Thanksgiving or Christmas presents for my friends and family? This time I’d like to add to the list tutorials in my blog a knitted hand warmers tutorial. Hand warmers are the easiest to make type of gloves, since they are fingerless and while keeping your hands warm they also allow you to have a good grip of your phone or car keys without having to take the gloves off.
I’d like to show you how to knit very practical fingerless mitts with a braid pattern at the front.
MATERIALS:
– US #10 (6 mm) Circular Knitting Needles or a set of double pointed needles
– 1 Skein of 50% wool, 50% acrylic* yarn.
– Yarn needle
*I prefer not to use pure wool knitting thread, since they usually fluff more intensely.
GAUGE
18 sts = 4” (10 cm); 24 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch worked in rounds (knit every round).
CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.
CUFF
Cast on 32 stitches. Carefully join for working in the round, make sure not to twist the stitches.
Knit 4in (10 cm) of 2×2 rib.
Row 1 – 22. k2, p2 , repeat until the end of the row
BODY OF THE GLOVE
Rows 23-26: *p2, k1, p2, k4, p2, k1, p2, k4, p2, k1, p2* k9

THUMB
Take a double pointed needle and pick up the right hand side of each of the stitches above and below the waste yarn.
Remove the waste yarn. Pick up one stitch from either side of the finger hole.
Now you have 10 open stitches which will be the basis of your thumb.
Rows 1-3: stockinette stitch
Cast off the final row 4 and weave all ends.
