OK so they didn't tender Pedro. Now what? Not sure Morse is the answer. Do they sign another free agent? Do they wait until June to bring up Bell and let him go into on the job training mode?
With the pitching changes, it seems like another 98 game win season is not looking so good. Actually I'd like to see all these prospects we hear about begin the rebuild.
Winning 98 games again was highly unlikely to happen as that requires a ton to go right for a team not just talent. The same holds true for the Cardinals and Cubs though chances are next year's central winner will have fewer than the 3rd place 97 wins. However there is no need for a rebuild. This team still has a very strong core but I agree with you 1B is looking a little weak but that was also the case before they let Pedro go. The free agent market actually has a few interesting names but the issue is most of them are right handed and really wouldn't pair well with Morse. Mike Napoli and Steve Pearce would be good stop gaps for Bell and even Chris Carter and Dah-ho Lee would be interesting additions but again they all bat right handed and that wouldn't pair well with Morse. Ike Davis and Justin Morneau are probably the best non Chris Davis LH options on the market and neither really appeals to me.
An outside the box idea I like is signing John Jaso and giving him a shot at 1B. He has a nice bat and while he is awful behind the plate he hasn't really been tried too much at 1B.
