Naming your band after two legendary blues men is a bold move. Chicago based sextet Burnside & Hooker sound a lot more cheerful than those towering giants and they are not above stepping all over the 12-bar mantra by inserting jazz, music hall and even a bit of country.
Despite relying on acoustic instruments, including a viola and cello, the band get really loud - they have to in order to keep up with powerful vocal delivery of lead singer Rachel Bonacquisti. This is a band that can't wait to hit the road and break the mold of dreary everyday hassles - mostly relationships that go nowhere fast. Recommended if you like The Levellers and The Walkabouts.
Burnside & Hooker:
Rachel Bonacquisti: lead vocals & ukulele
Diana Mayne: viola, piano, & backing vocals
Ted Graham: cello
Michael Vogus: guitar & backing vocals
Ken Fuller: upright bass & backing vocals
Vuck: drums, percussion, & backing vocals
