So my mom is working on creating a gallery wall. We were out shopping at Hobby Lobby and found this huge G (first letter of their last name) on sale for $6. It was a total steal but it didn’t look anything like she wanted.
As we were browsing around the store we got the inspiration to remake this letter. There was a burlap covered monogram letter that was outlined with nail head trim. We searched everywhere for nail head trim and couldn’t find what we were looking for. Then mom had the great idea to use her grandmother’s buttons for the border.
A project was born.
I really did love the design that was on the G but it just didn’t go with her décor. Check out that old drawer full of old buttons.
Trace the outline of your letter onto the burlap then cut it out.
I didn’t intend on painting the letter but the design on the G showed right though. I found a peach tan color to cover up the design.
Next, coat your letter with mod podge.
Once I got the burlap on the letter, I put a coat of mod podge around the edges.
Then I got to look through my great-grandmother’s old buttons. I picked out ones of different sizes and shapes in white and cream colors. I just eye balled the spacing and then hot glued them on.
I think it turned out great and it’s even more special that the old buttons are now visible and not in a drawer!
Are there any unique ways that you have used old buttons?
