bülow – Crystalline Album Review

bülow is a pop star on an extraordinary trajectory. She's already a multi-platinum selling, Juno award-winning, buzz-worthy artist with a brand new album, Crystalline to share with the world.

With six songs and an interlude smack dab in the middle, the German-Canadian artist has shown us once again that she's got a ton of talent and a lot of music in her. We loved Not A Love Song and Two Punks In Love, and so did a lot of other people. And now, with the lead single, Sweet Little Lies catching our attention over and over again since it's release, bülow is on a roll again.

Because of the instantly recognizable talent and her age, we never really doubted that bülow was going to make moves in music when we were first introduced to her in late-2017. She was 17 at the time and already showing us that we should be ready to expect big things.

The 2019 Juno winner for Breakthrough Artist of the Year also earned nominations for Pop Album ( Damaged) and Single ( Not A Love Song) of the Year, and now on Crystalline, she's put herself in a position to get her name called again in 2020.

Crystalline opens with Sweet Little Lies and it's a freaking strong start. There's a reason it's racked up more than 4.5 million spins (Spotify and YouTube) already, and that's because it's that good. From there, the album moves through Get Stüpid and Word Smith, and loses no momentum at all. These are songs that you want to move to. They are songs that you want on your playlist when it's time to have a good time. And they are further examples of what bülow brings to the world of pop in 2019.

Recently, a lot of people have had reason to talk about Billie Eilish writing and singing beyond her years, Megan Bülow belongs in that same conversation. There's a flow and rhythm to her music that comes naturally to her, but not to everyone. And there's an understanding of what she's trying to do and share and feel through her music. In a press release on release day she said, "Through this album I get to relive feelings and emotions I won't forget even if I want to. They're out there now for the world to see. I'm proud of this moment and co-creators.".

After the two-minute interlude, Back OFF (which has the potential to be a really cool moment in a big live show), the album continues with its second-half. FINE kicks it off with more emotion, and fire for what she does. And as the last two tracks on Crystalline ( Euphoria and Wake Up) play over a six and a half minute period to end the album, we are left wanting A] more, or B] to hit play on Sweet Little Lies again.

bülow is a talented songwriter, a strong singer with a great sound, and she's got the drive and the team to help take to her new heights with every new project. At just 19 years old, Megan Bülow is ahead of the curve, ahead of the game, and in a position to be one to watch for years to come in Canada and beyond.

With somewhere around 70 million Spotify spins since late 2017 (less than 18 months), she's already proven to be a hit.

Crystalline 's a hit too. Hit play now.
