I had the urge to knit something worm and cosy for a couple of weeks. But after knitting the couple of rows, I felt that that’s not it. It all lasted until I’ve found a couple of skeins of bulky mustard wool blend yarn. I’m a big fan of mustard color and a happy owner of 2 mustard scarves ( one of them is a wool infinity scarf ). But there’s no mustard beanie in my wardrobe, so I’ve decided to knit myself one.
This super easy, beginner friendly mustard hat is very warm and cosy. I knit in two strands to achieve a bulky look.
Materials:
– size 8 (5.0mm) Circular Knitting Needles
– set of four size 8 (5.0mm) double pointed knitting needles
– 2 skeins of Alpacana Lanoso (Turkey) wool blend.
– yarn needle
Gauge
15 sts and 15 rows = 4×4in or 10×10cm
Size:
Hat diameter is 54 cm/20.5 in
Abbreviations:
K – Knit
P – Purl
K2tog – knit two stitches together
Base of the hat
Take two strands and cast on 76 stitches. Join for knitting in the round. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of the row, if you like.
Knit 26cm/10in of 1×1 rib stitch ( K1, P1).
Decrease
Row 1: *K2tog., repeat from * to end of row. At the end of the row you will have 38 stitches on your needles.
Switch to double pointed needles if necessary
Row 2:*K2tog., repeat from * to end of row. At the end of the row you will have 17 stitches on your needles.
Row 3: K1, *K2tog., repeat from * to end of row. At the end of the row you will have 9 stitches on your needles.
Cut yarn leaving the long tail and thread it through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and weave in the end on the inside of the beanie.
