Building a Healthy Travel Kit

By Healthytravelblog @healthytravel1

Travel Health KitI admit that whenever I’m preparing for a trip, I get a little packing crazy. In addition to packing double the amount of clothes I’ll actually need—some of you might agree it’s nice to have options—I also like to bring along certain health items as well.

The goal is to make sure you stay healthy and comfortable, or that you’re able to treat bumps and bruises if need be. And if you’re unlucky enough to sustain a more significant injury, it’s smart to have supplies that will help you administer first aid to treat an injury and reduce symptoms until you can get professional care.

From ibuprofen to mini packs of tissues, there are certain items that are essential for any traveler, and thankfully many already come in travel-sized packages. Here’s a list of items I like to bring, as well as some recommended by the CDC:

  • Ibuprofen or aspirin
  • Anti-diarrheal medication
  • Antihistamine or allergy medication
  • Anti-motion sickness medication
  • Antacids
  • Band aids
  • Antibacterial ointment
  • Hand sanitizer. The small bottles are perfect and can be packed in a carry on.
  • Sunscreen
  • Aloe
  • Tweezers
  • Water purification tablets, if necessary
  • Prescription medicine (in its original packaging). Bring extra just in case your trip gets extended, whether planned or unexpected. Some parts of the world might restrict travelers from bringing certain medications into the country, so be sure to check with your embassy before leaving.
  • Copies of important documents, such as your passport, travel documents, and your health insurance card. You should also leave a copy with a friend or relative at home in case of an emergency.

If you’ll be flying, remember to follow the carry-on baggage regulations; sharp objects or liquids over three ounces should go in your checked bag. If you’re only bringing a carry on, try to get travel-sized items or purchase these products at your travel destination.
