BUCN Perfect : Lucic Starts the Trash Talk

By Kipper @pghsportsforum
This weekend Milan Lucic made what can only be described as one of two things: a backhanded compliment or a dig at the Penguins. He likened the Penguins to the Miami Heat of hockey. He’s either pointing out we have a championship caliber team, or he’s still salty from the Iginla trade/Pens beating them 3 times already in the regular season. I’ll leave that up to you to decide.

When asked about Lucic’s comments, Sid said that the team was going to take it as a compliment. He also said that the Pens weren’t going to read into the situation. Although, Sid hasn’t ever been known to be a **** starter, so this comes as no surprise. Brendan Morrow echoed Sid’s sentiments regarding the situation.

I think history has shown us that even if you “buy” a championship worthy team, it doesn’t always spell W-I-N. Bleacher Report pointed out that the first season the Heat had their three stars (LeBron, D-Wade, Bosh), they didn’t win a championship. The last time the Yankees won the World Series was in 2009. Both teams have taken criticism for buying players to win championships. I don’t think you can present a valid argument that this always works the way it seems like it should.

Could Lucic be upset about the fact that the Penguins beat them 3 times? Probably. Can these comments be seen as a way to further set up the “buying” championships argument if the Bruins lose? Probably. I should point out that Boston won the Stanley Cup in the 2010-2011 season. Another fun fact: We got Malkin and Crosby both at a point in time when we weren’t a winning hockey team in 2004 and 2005 respectively. We didn’t win a cup until 2009.

So, with a week off, is Lucic trying to instigate the Pens for when they finally do hit the ice (most likely) Saturday? Keep some type of competitive nature to the week off? Maybe get the Bruins going a little? I mean, Jagr hasn’t scored a goal yet this post-season… but that’s another story for another day. Personally, I think he was taking a dig at the Pens and Ray Shero’s spectacular moves before the trade deadline. I smell jealousy in the air over the Iginla trade.

My guess? Pens in 6. Suck it Lucic. :jagoff:
