LATROBE, Pa. -– Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Justin Brown will practice today -- and likely score some points with his coaches and teammates just for returning to the field.
Brown had surgery Friday in Pittsburgh to correct a broken nose that he sustained Thursday in practice. Brown got hurt while trying to block safety Shamarko Thomas on a running play.
The second-year man not only finished practice, he didn’t realize he had broken his nose until a couple of teammates pointed out that something didn’t look right.
“I was walking and people were saying, ‘Your nose is a little crooked,’ ” Brown said. “I’ll be fine.”
Brown is having a strong camp after standing out during the offseason practices. That the former Penn State and Oklahoma standout will only miss one practice will only help as Brown tries to distinguish himself at a crowded position.
Brown said he has no hard feelings toward Thomas, who was nicknamed “Headache” by veteran cornerback Ike Taylor last year because he is such a hard hitter.
“It was just a regular play,” Brown said. “He was just trying to fill up the run. It’s part of football.”
