Happy Fall! Welcome to our home for a mini tour of my first time decorating for a season! As you can tell by the shorts and sleeveless top, it does not feel like fall in Texas, however the calendar says otherwise and I’m getting in the spirit (fake it ‘til you make it, right!?).
Before our big garage sale last month, Hannah and I went through her decorations and she let me keep quite a few things for my new home. Such a great sis!! Here is my fall inspired mantle. Check out how Hannah made her own leave garland (here).
I inherited this pumpkin from Hannah’s fall decorations. See how she made it (here), she had a huge fail before these were an adorable success. Brent actually picked out this scarecrow on a paint-pen-run to Michael’s craft store.
I love the height that the wheat adds to this side of the mantle. I actually bought this bundle of wheat to use in the fall wreath and had this much left over! Plus it was on sale for only $3.50. I found an old carafe, wrapped a piece of chevron burlap around the base and tied it off with some twine. Quick and easy arrangement and I can take it all apart and use the carafe again!! Brent and I bought one of these pumpkins at Michael’s and the other two were from Hannah.
I love this little scarecrow on our front porch, welcoming all our guests. See how Hannah decorated with this guy at her old house (here). My porch looks a little puny compared to her corn husks and tons of pumpkins…but hey, it’s my first year to decorate!!
I am loving the new rocking chair pillow (also from Hannah). Check out my tutorial on this estate sale rocking chair re-do (here).
I am probably most excited about this DIY fall wreath! I got the urge to make a wreath at about 11pm one night, so I woke up early to go to Hobby Lobby as soon as the doors opened at 9am! I got all the supplies to make this gorgeous wreath for only $38. They were selling similar wreaths for $160!! No way man, I will always try to make it myself before shelling out that kind of dough. It was simple to make, just pumpkins, leaves, burlap, and wheat.
Well this is the end of our tour. We have this little scarecrow sign in the flower bed leading to our front door to welcome everyone. I have really enjoyed decorating this year…and have a feeling the fall inspiration is not done yet. I am have a few empty canvases and may just starting painting as soon as I finish typing.
Hope you have found some inspiration to decorate your own home. Half of the decorations were inherited from Hannah, so big thanks to my sis. If you are decorating on a budget, look for sale items after the season or at estate/garage sales. You never know how you can repurpose someone’s old décor.
