British IPA – Strathcona Beer Company

By Mike @mikescraftbeer

From Strathcona Beer Company in Vancouver comes their "British IPA". The beer pours a copper colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of biscuity with an overly malty with a fruity, sweet and floral finish. The flavour was of lots of fruit up front with caramel, grain, biscuit, earth, mild resin and a medium bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 60. While I personally prefer a good hop bomb this one is on point and a British or English IPA and will definitely appeal to the non hop head.

Commercial Description: This is first and foremost a classic, English IPA. This style is recognized for a flavouring more balanced between hops and malt as opposed to the more hop-forward IPAs of the Pacific Northwest. This is also reflected by the low hop aroma. The light hop flavouring comes from the traditional English hops Fuggles and UK Goldings. This light gold colored beer has a moderate citrus flavor, low fruitiness and a dry finish.
