Jim Rutherford will be announced as the next general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to a TSN report.
Rutherford, 65, resigned as general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes in April and moved into the role of team president. He had spent the previous 20 years as the club's general manager, dating to its time as the Hartford Whalers.
During Rutherford's tenure the Whalers/Hurricanes went to the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times, won three division titles, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup.
The Penguins have been searching for a new general manager since May 16, when Ray Shero was fired. Assistant general manager Jason Botterill has been the interim GM.
